چکیده

The paper describes a novel implementation of the piecewise linear interface-capturing volume-of-fluid method (PLIC-VOF) in axisymmetric cylindrical coordinates. principal innovative feature involved this work is that both forward and inverse reconstruction problems are solved analytically, resulting an appreciable speed-up computing time comparison with iterative approach. All formulae introduced explicitly, example illustrating their derivation included for clarity. numerical PLIC-VOF interface tracking developed here described detail, as well its coupling 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes solver PSI-BOIL, which features finite-volume approach based on fixed, rectangular grid. This includes to calculate surface tension force within VOF framework by means height functions. first verified ensure correct code, evaluate performance, several advection tests employed demonstrate successful solution basic transport problem. It shown convergence equilibrium may be achieved static problems, involving control parasitic currents, variety grid arrangements, different material properties. Several dam-break rising bubble high-quality measured data available, also presented serve validation tests. In all cases, very good agreement simulation results experimental has been recorded, dynamics problem reproduced.

An adaptive coupled level-set/volume-of-fluid interface capturing method for unstructured triangular grids

We present an adaptive coupled level-set/volume-of-fluid (ACLSVOF) method for interfacial flow simulations on unstructured triangular grids. At each time step, we evolve both the level set function and the volume fraction. The level set function is evolved by solving the level set advection equation using a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method. The volume fraction advection is performed...

An Implicit Algorithm for Capturing Sharp Fluid Interfaces in the Volume of Fluid Advection Method

The Volume of Fluid (VOF) method is one of the most effective methods employed in the simulation of two fluid flows with interfaces where density and viscosity change abruptly. These interfaces are represented implicitly by the values of a colour function which is a volume fraction of one of the fluids. The advantage of the method is its ability to deal with arbitrarily shaped interfaces and to...

Equivalence Conditions for Finite Volume / Element Discretizations in Cylindrical Coordinates

Abstract. A novel numerical technique for the solution of the compressible flow equations over unstructured grids in a cylindrical reference is presented. The proposed approach is based on a mixed finite volume / finite element method. Equivalence conditions relating the finite volume and the finite element metrics in cylindrical coordinates are derived. Numerical simulations of the explosion a...
